This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach 2nd Grade at an Elementary which is a title 1 school located on the border of El Paso, Texas and Juarez, Mexico. What I love most about my little scholars is their willingness to be open minded when it comes to learning something new!

I have a very diverse group of little scholars that are always anxious to learn something new and always ready to teach me something new as well!

My group of little scholars are extra special because I have the pleasure of having Tigua Native Americans and Hispanics in my class! This dynamic duo is awesome because each of them brings a piece of their culture to our classroom which makes the learning not only engaging for them but also memorable.

My Project

Color can be very effective in a learning and education setting. Research has shown that color is believed to be the most important visual experience to the human brain. It has been proven that color can improve recognition by up to 80%!

One of the subject areas that would be most impacted if this project was funded would be Science.

On a daily basis my students use their Interactive Student Notebooks to take notes and draw pictures of the topic we are discussing. As an example, this past week our focus in science was weather patterns and clothes that would be suitable to wear depending on what the weather is like. As a class we used our artistic skills to draw different types of weather and an example of ourselves and how we would be dressed. Students were limited to adding color to their pictures due to lack of supplies. I believe that with color, my lessons would have more of an impact on my students.

With this project I would like to provide my students with the tools necessary to create a more colorful Interactive Student Notebook in which they will be able to make notes and draw pictures that correlate to their notes in color. With this project I believe my students will benefit because they will each have their own set of markers and other tools to use!
