In my classroom, students are fully immersed in the world of science. I teach students in PreK-5th and meet with each grade daily. Teaching hands-on is the best way to learn and experience science.
With active learning in mind, integrating art is a very effective method for students learning hands-on science.
Students use art materials, such as markers, modeling clay, and popsicle sticks, to create models that help elevate their understanding of a science topic. For example, our second graders recently learned about the architecture of buildings by using popsicle sticks to build towers. Furthermore, students use modeling clay to create different fossils. In my science classroom, students learn hands-on every day through the integration of art. I teach many creative scientists at my school!
