My Students
Our school is located in Harlem and serves a predominantly African American, and Hispanic population. Although most of our students enter first grade reading far below grade level, they usually make great strides in reading progress with a whole school literacy focus.
I teach at a Title I School in NYC where 100% of our children receive free breakfast and lunch.
Despite so many hardships, my students are eager to learn. Many of them want to be the first in their families to go to college.
My Project
My students are reading below grade level because for the past year most of them have been at home due to the pandemic. I have almost depleted my supply of books in my classroom in order to give them books to take home to read. The books are the students to keep because of the pandemic they cannot return them to school.
Please help me to continue this practice as the children need to keep reading.
