My students need books to support their emergent literacy skills. Books with predictable patterns and beginning sight words are crucial to their success.
My students want to learn and are excited to learn! However, many students at my school do not come to school with rich literacy experiences, knowledge of letters and sounds or just being read to prior to kindergarten. We are a title 1 school, where many students qualify for free/reduced meals. This project will support needy families who may not have educational resources or books in their homes. Students will not only read these books in school, but will bring them home to share their reading!
My Project
Many students in my school come to school lacking basic knowledge of how books work, little knowledge of story elements, letters and sounds and critical foundations of literacy. This project will put books in the student’s hands and in their homes! Studies show the more kids read, the greater chance they have of being on grade level for reading achievement. The books in this project range from level A to level B. Students will learn how to finger point, use the pictures to help solve unknown words, as well as apply letters and sounds to read these emergent level texts.
