Urban Gardening for Autistic Elementary School Students

Help me give my students the experience of discovering the joys and benefits of urban gardening. Four Autistic elementary school classrooms will each have their own container garden to plant, maintain, and harvest.

Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Project

Each of our four Autistic elementary school classrooms will have the opportunity to interact with their general education peers to plant, maintain, and harvest from our urban container garden. We have been successful with smaller projects in our dedicated sunny spot, and it is now time to grow this project to involve more students.

Two important goals for this project are to increase the interaction between our Special Education and General Education students in addition to introducing our students to plants and fresh vegetables.

The planters and tools are items we can use for several years. Students will assist in determining the plants and vegetables for each planter. Based on our previous experience we should have three seasons a year of successful planting!
