My Project

No matter what's going on in our school, our students inspire us to be the best versions of ourselves. We know they're watching us, trying to learn from our example how to be a good human…and that makes us want to become the person they believe we are and can be. Our students are inquisitive and full of wonder. Their search for knowledge is inspiring. We know that nothing can hold them back from being their best.

We have been working hard to show our students that planting seeds in our school garden could be one way to help their families and our school community.

The pandemic allowed the teachers and the staff at our school to see just how many of our students suffered from food insecurity. Time in the garden will allow for team building and it promotes communication skills. Planning a garden, planting the seeds, and watching them grow to give students a sense of purpose and responsibility. Making sure that the plants get enough water sun and love fosters mindfulness. For our very young learners, gardening is a great physical development activity. Young children can practice locomotor skills, body management skills, and object control skills while they move from one place to the other carrying tools, soil, and water. They can also learn to be resourceful and gain self-confidence. Lastly, research shows that when children help grow fruits and vegetables, they are more likely to eat more produce and try different kinds of fruits and vegetables.
