My Students

My high school students are in the hospital being treated for both chronic and acute illnesses as well as traumatic injuries. Many of these students also have multiple disabilities. Yet, despite these challenges, they crave education, appreciate the simple pleasures of life and take nothing for granted. In short, they are miracles! Because they have limited access to the outside world, I use technology and to keep them up to date on local and international news. In order to prepare them to become well informed citizens, they must know the issues that impact them and be able to understand all sides of a story , understand bias, and make informed decisions. With digital and print access to Upfront magazine for students, they will deepen their understanding of their world .

My Project

My students will use the New York time magazine “Upfront” to be informed about their world, enable them to evaluate sources and to make intelligent decisions and life choices. In essence, this is a tool to help them develop critical thinking skills. Upfront magazine covers all subject areas with the latest news on science and health, arts and culture, technology, and both national and international news. It is easy to read, challenging and thorough. It includes resources for enrichment and invites students to interact with their world in a sophisticated and educated manner. It is all the news that’s fit to print!
