I teach Math in grades 6-8 in an old theatre-style room. I plan to provide an updated space for my students that allows them to have a desk, a safer seat, and an area where they can work on their individual skills to reach their goals. The room is fantastic!! It is spacious and well-lit, and my students love it!! We don't love the current seating and lack of desk space. With this project, I can fund 25 desks for my students to be secured to the floor once the old theatre seats are removed. My students desperately NEED space to sit their Chromebooks or complete paper copy work. I have broken seats and cannot monitor the room properly for safety since the theatre seats block the view.
Funding this project would mean so much to my students.
They dislike the theatre seating. It is old, creaky, and uncomfortable, and they only have a small 6"x6" space to do their work. This limits the class from doing some projects that allow them to be creative and build with their hands. I have approximately 85 students throughout the day.
What makes my students unique? My students are middle school students living in a rural and urban landscape blend. We are at a large middle school with over 650 students; of those, 85 are my kids!! How lucky am I? So what makes them unique? It is difficult to narrow that to an essay. I love that each of my students is their own individual, with dreams and aspirations to make their way in this world. Some of my students have specialized learning needs that could be better addressed by having a proper desk and seating area to achieve their goals!
