This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Project
Last year our school was renovated and I would like to provide some new materials to go along with our refurbished classroom. More and more students are struggling with self-regulation. I would like to incorporate a stationary bike to use when students are overwhelmed with emotion and need a physical way to calm down. The bike also has a desktop for students to use to do their work if needed. Some of the slots in the current mailboxes that I'm using are starting to slant downwards, making it hard to put papers in the slots underneath....so I would like to purchase an upgraded wooden mailbox with tubs that easily slide in and out.
I would also like to purchase some reading and math games for students to use when we're doing centers.
Some of the reading and math games that we're using currently are outdated or falling apart. The reading games will be used to help students with letter recognition, letter sounds, CVC words, tracing, and writing letters. The math games would be used to help with counting, number recognition, addition, subtraction, and tracing numbers. I would also like to purchase a new calendar pocket chart with premade calendar accents. The calendar we're currently using is a calendar I've had since I first started teaching 26 years ago. We are also in need of a class set of dry-erase erasers for students to use. We're currently using socks. A lot of the students entering kindergarten struggle with gripping their pencils correctly. I would like to get pencil grips for them to help them in their journey of writing. Lastly, I would like to get a sensory bin. Sensory bins are a great way to incorporate fine motor skills in the classroom.
