Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Project

The students at my school come from economically disadvantaged homes and are all minorities. The students in my classes are all special needs students or students who are struggling learners in need of skill development and are 2 to 5 years behind their peers. Many of my students have Autism, intellectual disabilities, Dyslexia, emotional differences, communication needs or other learning differences. One of the activities they have enjoyed is gardening. Not only does it teach them where their food comes from, they get to eat what we grow. We work on important life skills such as working with others and communicating while we are working in our small garden.

These additional garden boxes and hose will help us expand our garden space so that all 30 of my special education students can participate.

We plan to grow green beans, peas, carrots, strawberry and several other items.
