Up Close Look at the Visual Arts

Help me give my students easier access to visual art demonstrations of drawing, painting and technical artistic skills with a document camera that has great focus and zoom with a clear picture on a 2 tiered standing desk.

My Students

My students are excited inner city kids, wanting to learn, experience and see everything they can! After spending the last few years in this building with these amazing kids, I have come to see what TALENT my kids really have!

All my students are eager to learn, draw and be proud of themselves as artists, as well as immerse themselves in the American culture.

Many of my students are new to the country and have very limited experience with English.

Most of my students are working below grade level in math and ELA, and art is one of the class they feel free to be creative and free.

My Project

The document camera will allow students in person, on quarantine or when we are remote to follow along for guided drawings, step by step directions and demonstrations for art projects. They can see drawing, shading, and painting techniques up close and live. Its much easier to show watercolor painting than to describe it; dip in the water, get the paint wet with your brush, and now paint on your paper. They can complete this work in school or at home keeping them on pace with their peers. The doc cam allows students to see exactly what is being drawn, described or demoed for them up close.

Many of my students are English Language Learners, and need examples and live demonstrations for them to understand through watching the process versus hearing the process described which can often be confusing and have many unfamiliar words.

The standing desk will allow me my own space to stand and demo projects for students and not take their table space away from them. The muliti levels of the desk allow for more surface space to seen on the doc cam, allowing them to see the whole picture and process at one time.
