Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

This year, I’m teaching social studies along with reading and writing as part of a two-way switch, and I’ve quickly learned how important it is to build background knowledge and connect our lessons to rich, authentic sources. I want my students to explore our nation's history through both primary and secondary sources and to engage in discussions that encourage critical thinking and curiosity. These materials will help me create a classroom where social studies is meaningful, engaging, and accessible to all learners.

This project will equip my students with the tools they need to explore history, understand it deeply, and connect it to the world around them.

The books will support small group work and add to our growing classroom library, while the primary source sets will help bring historical moments to life. The Teachers Pay Teachers gift card will allow me to download high-quality, standards-aligned materials that meet my students’ needs and interests. My students are already asking thoughtful questions and showing interest in the world around them—this project will help deepen their understanding and support their growth as informed, thoughtful citizens.

With these new resources, my students will have more opportunities to engage with history in a way that feels relevant and exciting. They will be able to analyze real documents, explore multiple perspectives, and build connections between what they’re learning and the world around them. These materials will not only strengthen their understanding of social studies content but will also support their reading, writing, and discussion skills across the curriculum. I’m excited to watch them grow into confident learners who ask big questions and think deeply about the past, present, and future.
