Unlocking Potential: Hands-On Learning Through Classroom Breakout Boxes

Help me give my students a new way of learning by bringing physical breakout boxes into our classroom. These hands-on materials turn complex academic concepts into interactive, high-energy challenges that inspire every student to collaborate, problem-solve, and explore.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students are curious, energetic, and eager to learn when given the chance to take the driver’s seat in their own education. They come to our school with diverse backgrounds, learning styles, and strengths. While traditional worksheets and lectures can leave some students disengaged, my class truly comes alive when learning is hands-on, collaborative, and challenge-based.

To help them thrive in school and beyond, I want to create an environment where mistake-making is viewed as a natural step toward discovery, and where every student finds a voice within their group.

Instead of telling students what they need to know, I want them to discover it through inquiry and teamwork. Breakout boxes (classroom escape rooms) transform traditional learning into high-energy, collaborative missions.

Educational research shows that gamifying content through breakout challenges boosts engagement while embedding deep content retention. This project specifically targets the following core durable skills outlined in North Carolina's Portrait of a Graduate; Critical Thinking & Problem Solving, Collaboration & Communication, Adaptability & Resilience, and Learner's Mindset.
