Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The second semester of the 2017-18 school year, we created monthly lessons on the different components of STEM; Science, Technology, Engineering and Math for all students. After this was implemented, I could see that our students at our Title I school looked forward to the each new lesson offered in our library. They were sharing their enjoyment with fellow peers and and sharing what they learned with their parents. Our new 2018-19 STEM lab classroom is an even larger expansion for our students.

STEM lab is really going to enable our students the opportunity to work on more sophisticated projects that will include newer items that are listed on our donation list below.

Thank you Chevron's Fuel Your School for embracing this worthwhile cause.

My Project

Our school and district has recently gone through an extensive restructuring which included the loss of our computer lab and our art program. In their place, I have been entrusted with the responsibility of the Technology committee chair who has designed and opened a brand new STEM lab in one of our campus classrooms starting the 2018-19 year. This will bring our students a variety of fun lessons that will include newer, engaging science, technology, engineering and math materials. There are some existing supplies that are used by the students in the lab currently, but we really want to make the STEM lab an effective hub of learning. The books that were selected will be used by our committee to find lessons that will be used as part of the lab's 6 day rotation. The robotics, virtual reality and building materials will be organized in designated areas of the lab so the lessons will run smoothly from day to day. The classroom is set up so students can go to 4 different stations in small groups for a set time to participate in hands-on activities.

The donations to this project will help increase the variety of lesson materials so that each classroom visit will have ample supplies for all students to gain knowledge in a fresh, welcoming, learning environment.

By adding these selected items to the STEM lab, my students will have a broader scope of learning. We will use robotic challenge cards paired with technology to make our new 5th grade Science program a success . As our school librarian, I had started a Makerspace program two years ago. Now with your help, we will have grown from a club of few Gifted and Talented students to a rotation classroom with great learning tools which will impact each student.
