Help me give my students the best educational atmosphere to grow their minds, creativity, and knowledge with the use of whiteboards, pencils, and other desired classroom supplies.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I love the students that I work with. Navarre Middle School has been under a bad reputation for as long as I can remember. When I tell people that is were I teach, most times I get a response similar to "God bless you for sticking it out". Now I won't lie, it has been an extremely difficult road. But those students have proven to be worth every feeling of anger, sadness, inadequacy, and hopelessness.
At Navarre, there are students born to serve others, students born to be leaders, students aspiring to dance, students that are teachers pets, students that you can tell will be engineers, doctors, and lawyers.
But we also have students that have no aspirations for themselves, many that don't care because they were lost somewhere along the way, and many more that have a very hard life inside and outside of school. We all come together to make this beautiful community of lifelong learners. The goal is that when they leave, they will leave with more people that love them and more knowledge than when they came.
My Project
The supplies above will help solidify learning in the minds of 6th graders in a failing school on the brink of success. The items listed in this project are what I believe are necessary supplies to make this school year an amazing experience in math class.
Whiteboards, post-it notes, pencils will all be used to help in this process by aiding students in the process of showing the teacher what is being learned for easy formative assessments.
Velcro strips, night lights, number lines, and Mathematical Argumentation will be used to increase engagement/interaction and understanding in the classroom, which will in turn make the content learned more concrete. Coloring pages and the doorbell will aid in calming the storm when individual students and/or entire classrooms have been over-stimulated or have become overly excited.
