This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our classroom is a fun, safe, and engaging space for students to learn. As teachers we want the students to feel comfortable throughout the day for them to produce their best work. Especially having a classroom with special needs students, it is important for those sensory needs to be met. For our students with emotional/behavior struggles - they need to be in a space that is comforting and relaxing.
Flexible seating gives students choice in where/how they want to learn and work.
This choice allows them to develop independence and ownership over their learning. These pieces of furniture are durable and comfortable for the kids.
Our school is a Title 1 school in Manhattan serving children grades Pre-K to 5th grade. The student body is 97% children of minority background, majority low-income and a high population of ELLs/special education students. My class is a 4th grade ICT classroom with a large ratio of special needs- for whom flex seating makes the largest difference!!!
My Project
When you do your work at home or in a cafe, you are looking for the best seat to make you comfortable and productive. This is my goal for 4th grade as well, to make the room a space of productivity and comfort.
With these new furniture pieces we can give the students more freedom to learn, be creative, and feel excited to go to school.
With these items we will have seating options to suit all learners, and help us as teachers with seats that are appropriate for the flexible tables. All of our students will love the options.
