This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I am a first year High school teacher of Science to 9th grade English Language learners who are all less than six months old in the United States.

My students have shared with me they came here to study and look for a brighter future.

They are enthusiastic and excited about science. When students learn by doing, they understand better since hands-on opportunities help them to visualize and conceptualize content. They will use playdough, cardboard, pins, pipe-cleaners, markers to construct models of the animal and plant cells in order to display the different parts of a cell and their functions. Models are a concrete way to differentiate between animal and plant cells.

In addition, my English learners will use highlighters and pens during reading and writing about functions of parts of the cell.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
