Past:
Last year fifth graders built, maintained and competed using underwater robots called Remote Operated Vehicles or ROVs. Students worked in teams of four while learning about marine technology, volts, amps, & resistance. During our family night, teams earned points during the pool mission and were rated by judges on their oral presentations. All materials used to build these machines are reusable and are ready and available for this year’s competition. (Each bot is built from scratch each year)
My Project
We cannot predict the jobs of the future but we are certain that future jobs will require teamwork and high levels of communication. These materials will provide a real world experience that will be long lasting. Student work together on the design, the build process, they maintain their machines and lastly they compete with them. We begin with the end in mind. Students are introduced to the mission (pool tasks) and they are also required to answer oral question to local engineers regarding marine technology, volts, amps and resistance the night of the competition. Our competition is a family affair where siblings and grandparents spectate and cheer on their loved ones.
