My students need these two classroom sets of ukuleles in order to expand our music program to include this instrument. The ukulele is a great introductory instrument for students who ultimately wish to play the guitar.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Music and the arts thrive within our beautifully diverse and rapidly expanding K-8 school. We are a Title One school serving students from all socio-economic and cultural backgrounds. Our school is a warm, nurturing environment that values and celebrates cultural diversity. Throughout the school week, every child in our school receives music and our students have the opportunity to participate in after school chorus, glee club, and musical theater.
Our music students are eager to learn and seek more diverse opportunities to study music during the school day and after school.
As our school expands, we are in need of musical instruments and technology to provide our students with exceptional musical learning experiences.
My Project
As our music program continues to grow, we are always on the lookout for new ideas, and new avenues for our students to learn music. One of these new ideas is to implement the ukulele as a precursor to playing the guitar. It can be used as a scaffolding tool, first by introducing a four-stringed instrument, and follow up with the guitar, or, it can be used for differentiating guitar instruction. Two class sets of 10 ukuleles gives us plenty of options to use the ukulele in any class, but to also integrate them into our Pop Music Combo program.
