Ukuleles for Everyone!

Help me give my students soprano ukuleles so they can begin to learn instrumental music in their middle school music classes.

My Students

I am the Fine Art Department Chair and am working hard to support the students and teachers in music classrooms throughout the district. This large, urban school district has a diverse student population and many dedicated teachers who strive to provide robust and meaningful arts experiences for their students every day. Nearly 100% of the students in my school district are from low-income households. As such, very few students can afford their own musical instruments or the ost of taking private music lessons outside of school.

Students throughout the district are engaged in learning experiences inside the classroom that emphasize the importance of music in every culture and society throughout the world and the intersections between music and other academic content areas.

By teaching students the history of the ukulele and exposing them to music from cultures throughout the United States, students will gain awareness of the ways music has an impact on our society. Students will also develop technical music skills an increase their coordination.

Music is one of the ways that students make deep and meaningful connections to their academic experience. Without musical instruments to support this learning, students are miss a key component of music education.

My Project

By supplying our music classes with ukuleles, students will learn the joy of playing musical instruments. Playing the ukulele together will teach them teamwork through collaboration. Ukuleles are a perfect instrument to begin on because they are portable, durable, and easy for young students to play.

Studies have shown that music education improves memory, cognition, and attention, which increases academic performance and improves well-being.

Music education has a positive impact on the whole-student, so your donation will bring more than educational tools to the students of my school.

This project will support music teachers by providing them with the tools and resources necessary to deliver relevant instruction that is tied to the state and national standards for the arts.
