My Project
Hello! I am an inner-city music teacher, founding a modern rock program at my elementary school. My students have not had a music teacher in previous years, but they are motivated and ready to learn all the different instruments. Luckily, I got lots of funding this year for new instruments like ukuleles and small guitars! However, there are still many things we are lacking to have a successful program.
Something we still need is sheet music; this will enable us to read music together, with or without the use of technology.
There are tons of online resources that we use together in class, but many of my students don't have wifi or technology at home to be able to practice. Also, we can't use technology in performances or take iPads on field trips. As amazing as tech use is, sometimes you need to go back to pencil and paper. That is what we are doing here!
With these books (a class set of each), we will be able to play pop songs as a class without the use of technology or audio. I want the students making the music, not just playing along to some soundtrack. These books are going to be a great start - and they can take them home to practice as well!
