My Students

Our high school's Music students set the standard for pride and excellence in Central Massachusetts. They practice countless hours, are members of the Tri-M Honor Society, volunteer to help needy students, and strive to truly include all students regardless of ability into the music department. Our music department is nationally recognized, and our programs include three show choirs, concert choir, chamber choir, women's choir, marching band, percussion ensemble, winter guard and winter percussion. We also service non-performers in piano, guitar, music theory, music tech and history of music classes.

More than music.

That is our motto. We strive to build an inclusive community that builds on everyone's strengths and lets all experience music. As a teacher, I am most impressed at how my students take care of each other and those around them. This is why I decided to join DonorsChoose, to help get badly needed equipment so more students can be involved.

My Project

What does your average student who may not want to perform in a show choir or a marching band do with their free time on Tuesday and Thursday after school for an hour or so? Right now maybe nothing, but let's imagine the new ultra-cool SH Ukulele Club Band.

Ukulele Club will be designed for the new musician and for the students that are not involved in any other area of school life.

These students will experience the healing powers of music and a sense of community while creating music. How powerful!

Ukulele Club will be opened to all students regardless of the level of musicianship. Students with prior knowledge will peer teach by helping new learners achieve success with this instrument.
