I teach at a Title I school with wonderfully diverse group of students. Some of them are in a dual language immersion program in which they work together to become fluent in two languages.
Ready to learn and create, my students love music and are empowered when they have adequate quality instruments to use.
They love to collaborate and to use their creativity in various ways including composing, analyzing, and reading music at different levels.
Music is often a favorite subject of theirs, and I want to continue to build on and develop their natural curiosity and engagement with music.
My Project
I taught at a school last year that had a classroom set of ukuleles and this was many students' favorite music unit. I would love to be able to give the same opportunity to my students at this school so they can take the first steps on an instrument that they can learn easily and that they'll be able to make music with their whole lives! Ukuleles are fun and give students an opportunity not only to play an instrument alone but also to learn an instrument that they can use to accompany themselves or others as they sing songs.
