My Project
My favorite thing about teaching is that each year we build a classroom community that is caring, kind, and conscious of everyone's unique abilities. Sometimes we have students who enter first grade without having had a kindergarten experience in a classroom setting, and sometimes, without having had any academic preschool experiences. Sometimes we have students who need to build fine motor skills before they are able to achieve correct letter formation in writing, turn pages without support, and some that require more support than others. This project is an opportunity to provide for age-appropriate fine motor practice for these unique students, as well as all students in our classroom.
Every student brings their unique skills, and unique support needs - UDL means Universal Design for Learning - creative ways to support our students with the most distinct needs, while still engaging highly capable students with activities that are both fun, academic, motivating, and skill-building.
This UDL project incorporates creative literacy stations that include letter and color beading, word building, letter matching, and fine motor skills practice that all students will enjoy and benefit from.
