I teach 50 incredible 4th graders in ELA in an urban district in New York State. There are ten students who receive Special Education Services, three are English learners, and the remainder are hard working students who struggle in most academic areas. As the students enter into 4th grade, they are struggling with ELA and Math. About 95% of the students participate in an intensive reading intervention. The students are under a tremendous amount of stress with the learning and they they deserve a break during recess.
We are a technology classroom.
We are able to use chromebooks, cleartouch smartboard, and other exciting technology to enhance out learning, however we are lacking headphones and this is a distraction for everyone as we listen to each others computers, activity that they are participating in.
My class is made up of a heterogenous group of 4th graders.
They are very much into technology. We use it on a daily basis. The students enjoy being read to on the computer as they follow along, as well as playing math games to better their skills.
My Project
My students thrive with the use of technology and flexible seating in the classroom. They use chrome books daily for various projects including Math programs and Google Classroom. The use of headphones allows the students to work independently on various projects throughout the school year.
Flexible seating allows for students to work in a place that they feel most comfortable and work to their true potential.
The students enjoy having the flexibility of being able to move around the room and find somewhere comfortable to work. The bean bags will allow for the students to pick a place in the room and complete their work!
