This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My Pre-K classroom is filled with 20 energy-filled, four and five-year-olds. They are like busy little bees buzzing about our room looking eager to learn and discover new things. Many of my students and English Language learners come from low income, high poverty households. The neighborhood we serve is full of hardworking families that look to our school to provide the best education possible for their children. Our goal is to give them a nurturing, solid foundation while preparing them for success in kindergarten and throughout their school career.
Despite the daily challenges my students face, they arrive at school each day ready to learn and explore.
My kids are so motivated to learn. I strive each day to make learning fun and engaging for little ones. My students have a genuine love for learning. They are curious about the world around them, and I am constantly looking for ways to make learning hands-on and interactive and engaging.
My Project
The majority of my students are English Language Learners. Some of them came to me speaking no English at all. After the first six months of school, my kids are talking and having full-blown conversations in English! We are now putting the focus on mastery of the Alphabet and the Alphabet sounds. The kids love to show what they know and perform whenever they get a chance.
I would like to give them a fun way to develop language, practice alphabet knowledge, and reading skills by using microphones to help amplify their voices.
The kids can sometimes be shy but they light up when they get the chance to talk and demonstrate what they know. The microphones and speaker will allow us to practice talking in front of an audience and give the kids a chance to hear their own voice. I would like to get to the point where they can present their work to others and of course parents when we have special events at school. These materials will also help to build confidence in their speaking voices.
