My students need leveled children's books to allow them to read a "just right" book during DEAR (Drop Everything and Read).
FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Ryan's classroom raised $345

My Students
"It's okay to not know, but it's not okay to not try." My students have very little confidence due to their lack of basic reading skills. They have difficulty in phonemic awareness and decoding, therefore they have not learned the fun in getting lost in a great book.
In my self-contained, special ed.
classroom are lower level students, who lack the self-esteem and basic skills to succeed in the general ed. classroom. They attend a school where about 40% of the population receive free and reduced lunch. Also, the ESOL population is about 60%.
My Project
The leveled readers that I am requesting will allow my students to read a book at their individual level. Also, my hope is that within time, my students will find the love of reading and build their confidence in reading independently. The supplies in my project will allow my students to become more independent in their special education self-contained classroom.
Because of the time my students spend decoding words, they find it a "job" to read.
Growing up, my parents fought with me nightly at bedtime to put out my lights and close my book. I love to get lost in a great story and would like to share this with my students.
Your donation will inspire my students to continue reading and work on their decoding skills.
