Columbia is home to students representing 29 different languages and includes services in programs such as English as a second language (ESOL), noncategorical special education (NCE), Foreign Language in the Elementary School (FLES), and Advanced Academics. We focus on helping each student to realize his or her special talents and interests with the goal of providing stimulating learning experiences within a secure and caring environment. Areas of emphasis include differentiated instruction, the integration of technology into all areas of the curriculum, and adaptations of the curriculum to meet the needs of nontraditional learners. We emphasize development of higher-level thinking skills and guide students to think creatively and critically through problem-solving actities. (FCPS)
