This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
We are an inner-city public school located in downtown Rochester. Having the designation of being number one in concentrated childhood poverty in New York state, finding ways to supplement and enrich children's lives is difficult. After being remote for almost a year, our district has decided to begin the process of merging in-person learning with the current remote learning Therefore, teachers are challenged to find creative ways to keep all students organized, engaged, and active in their learning. Sixth grade is especially difficult as they are so much more self-sufficient than younger students.
My Project
We are seeing many students not able to participate fully in learning due to noisy household and background noise from siblings in simultaneous zoom meetings. The background noise is distracting to the individual student and the other classmates when mics are turned on to share. Using the chat feature can be clumsy for those who don't spell or type well.
If every student can have a quality headset with a mic that filters background noise, we could have wide spread participation and minimize distractions for everyone in the class.
Now that we are merging some in-school learners to our remote learning schedule, individual headsets will be essential to eliminate feedback and completion from small group zooms.
