I teach at a middle school in Brooklyn with awesome 8th grade students who love to learn. My students have so much energy and are always finding ways to release it. My students come from many different backgrounds and have many life experiences to contribute to their class learning. Not only are the students diverse based on background, they are also diverse based on their learning styles and interests.
My students are always asking how the math concepts we are learning applies to their world outside of the classroom and trying to make connections on their own.
My Project
Having trapezoid tables in our math class will help aid in students working together in small groups. The trapezoid shape will give multiple options for seat arrangements, allowing me to adjust seats more often depending on what we are learning and the needs of my students.
I will also be able to work with a small group of students in an area with the trapezoid tables.
I can pull a group of students to the trapezoid tables to work with. Other students will know during that time they will work with their other peers as I work with the small group.
These tables can also bring uniqueness and differentiation to our classroom. The trapezoid tables can hold two students each as oppose to the regular single seated desks.
