My students need to have access to technology. We are currently in a new portable that lacks iPads and use of laptops. These iPads would be a nice tool for my students to use.
As my students walk into our classroom each day, they are eager to check the day's schedule to see what the day is going to involve. Our is school located not too far from the majestic Sierra Mountains and within driving distance to beautiful Lake Tahoe. The school is part of a very large school district; we are one of 65 elementary schools. We are a "middle of the road" elementary school. We are not considered a wealthy school nor do we qualify for any Title I funds.
The families that attend our school financially support many of the needs of the school through the PTO's fundraising efforts.
Each year the PTO sponsors multiple fundraising events that are centered around the families at the school. After the bills are paid (kindergarten aide and PE aide), the PTO sends out a form for teacher requests. Teachers are then able to ask for materials for their classrooms. Even though this is a generous effort from the PTO, it is just not always enough to fund all the needs in all the classrooms for all the teachers and students.
My Project
Purchasing iPads for my classroom will enhance my students' learning tremendously. There are many online and electronic resources that would support my students' learning in the classroom. One of the main resources would be to allow students access to Raz-kids, an online reading program and IXL an online math support program.
Technology is critical in this day and age, and our portable classroom has very little.
In order for all students, partners or groups of 3 or 4 to have access to technology for an assignment, we have to enter the main building. We have to sign up to use a laptop cart or the school's computer lab and fit it around a time other classes aren't using either of them. It would be wonderful and convenient to not have to always schedule learning and research time but to be able to have spur of the moment learning opportunities.
