My Project

Welcome to our amazing 5th grade classroom community! I teach in an urban school and this year we are raising trout in our classroom to release into local waterways at the end of the year. This program and the supplies listed will help foster a love for learning through an immersive exploration of trout and STEELS (Science, Technology & Engineering, Environmental Literacy & Sustainability ) activities. Our goal is to create an engaging and educational environment where students can dive into the world of aquatic life while simultaneously developing essential STEELS skills.

Trout serve as fascinating subjects that allow the integration of various STEELS elements; the books in this project will help my students to research trout and their environmental impact on local waterways.

From studying their life cycle (Science) to creating trout habitats (Engineering) and understanding watersheds and how they impact our everyday life (Environmental Literacy) to researching and developing projects that will help students to be better care takers for their watersheds in their own community (Sustainability).

Real-World Connections: Understanding the life cycle of trout and the ecosystems they inhabit provides real-world context for science and environmental studies. Students will connect theoretical knowledge with practical applications, fostering a deeper appreciation for the interconnectedness of nature. They will also be connecting this to their own community and why taking care of local waterways and watersheds is so critical for the ecosystems.

Your generous contributions will help bring these topics to life. Allowing students to research trout lifecycles and sustainable practices.
