This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I have so many students who love to make music. Our school music program is growing every year, almost doubling in size! New instruments would help all students at my school be involved in the music program - most cannot afford to rent an instrument.

Tully C Knoles is a great community school that happens to be in a low-income area.

Our students are exposed to many elements of life that come along with low-income areas, and are striving every day to rise above those challenges. Students involved in the music program are incredibly driven, and many see playing a musical instrument as an "escape" from what is a stressful life.

My Project

While our school district promises to provide students with instruments, most of the instruments are in disrepair. The trombones we own are old, beat-up, and do not sound very good. Our students would love to feel they have EARNED the right to perform with a quality instrument, and that motivation will carry throughout the program.

Students will get to play music on a quality instrument, hear the difference in a quality tone, and learn how to respect and take care of nice things.

They are eager to make great music and I'm sure new instruments will build enthusiasm in the program!
