My students need quality tricycles to help develop their gross motor skills while on the playground. They need safe and sturdy equipment that will withstand many uses and last for years to come.

My Students
I serve students from a variety of backgrounds who reside in a variety of dwellings from small neighborhood homes with sidewalks, apartments, to rural country homes. My Transitional Kindergarten class is made up of 20 exuberant 5 year olds who will share a new playground with 3 other kindergarten classrooms.
In my TK class I am able to focus on nurturing the whole child using a variety of child development strategies.
I do this by creating an environment that fosters community, friendship, inclusivity, and respect in the classroom and on the playground. Children learn through play and exploration.
My Project
Pedaling and steering a tricycle is an imperative motor skills for transitional kindergarten and kindergarten students. There is lots of research that supports their importance and I want to ensure my students can reap the amazing benefits of learning to ride! Riding trikes can help students develop upper body strength, posture and directionality that will help them to develop their fine motor skills, such as writing.
There are several proven benefits to tricycle riding, the least of which is that it is just plain FUN!
With these tricycles our students will be given the chance to learn directionality, body awareness, safety rules, balance, turn taking, coordination and much much more. Right now, our students lack opportunities for safe cardiovascular, full body play. They have limited green space and experience many falls on the black top as they run and play during recess time. These tricycles would give them more choices to get their heart rates up, and expend their energy in a safe way.
