This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students come from a dangerous city in New Jersey. Children are often confined to their homes. School is where the action takes place. More than a decade ago I submitted projects for outdoor equipment that helped level the playing field for our children. Each year I see the smiles on the children's faces as they run, race, throw, ride, and hula hoop in the playground. The equipment provided by DonorsChoose was not only used for my class but also for three other PreK classes, four kindergarten classes, and four first-grade classes. I am able to watch as former students continued to build physical and social skills with the use of this equipment. Our young ones coming in with special needs have been able to build physical strength with the use of these materials. However, nothing last forever. I see that with our equipment. Peddles are missing, and balls are deflated. It would mean so much to the children.
