My 5th grade students are spirited, creative, and inquisitive. They come to school each and every day and make the best of everything no matter the circumstances. They love to do hands on activities and place-based learning projects that get them thinking outside of the box. Their curiosity and love of learning is quite contagious.
No matter the circumstances within their own lives, they still find the strength to push through any hardships and model what it means to be a resilient learner.
Every day I try to instill in my students that the possibilities are endless and to never give up. My students love when technology is incorporated in school and are thriving in this 21st century world.
My Project
These iPads will give my students the technology that is necessary to create signs and activities for our trail system surrounding our school's neighborhood. No matter what kind of place-based learning activity my students are given, they are fully engaged. When we are able to get outside the four walls of our classroom, they're completely intrigued with the possibilities of outdoor learning. The best part is that no matter the activity, students of all academic levels can participate at their own pace.
With these iPads, my students will be able to create activities that will be remembered for a lifetime.
After exploring the trails we found out that the trails did not have kid friendly signs. We also discovered that it would have been more fun to have something else to do while we were out there. My hope is to have my students create kid friendly signs and create activities for each stop along the trails. Having these iPads would be great to have for future classes to build on this activity.
