Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I work at a STEM magnet middle school in Indiana. This means that my students chose to come to our school to learn more about Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics.
My seventh and eighth graders come from all around the city to form a community where we focus on our core values of rigor, community, relationships, and drive.
My students come from diverse cultures and experiences, and some overcome significant obstacles to succeed at our school. In their two short years with us, they come in as young pre-teens and develop into teenagers prepared to flourish in high school!
My Project
Our students who receive English Language supports have a round of standardized tests in January. These tests assess their reading, listening, speaking, and writing skills as they learn English as a second (or third!) language. I am requesting two bags of mints to keep them focused during their tests. I'm requesting a Kuerig and hot chocolate k-cups as rewards for after they finish each testing session. A nice warm cup of hot cocoa is an excellent treat for a midwestern winter testing session! On behalf of our 245 English Language Learners- thank you!!
