As a teacher in the Orleans parish school district, I am proud to serve the community I also belong too. I strive to provided my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences that fit their individual needs. Our classroom is where we spend the majority of our day and thus my students and I become "family." Our school is a cooperative learning environment thus our children learn together as a community. Our classroom becomes our home away from home where everyone has the opportunity to feel free and safe.
The third grade students I teach come from a variety of neighborhoods and backgrounds.
However, through reading, the students have access to travel through time while witnessing unseen places through text and their imagination.
Through reading, students are given opportunities to time travel, go on adventures, and experience the unknown world around them through literature.
Unit goal: Students read both literary and informational texts about different types of treasure, the ways people hunt for treasure, and the various treasures which have been found, lost, and stolen over time.
Through discussions, writing, and research, students understand and express their understanding of why people hunt for treasure and what people are willing to do to get treasure.
According to the National Education Association, having kids read a lot is one of the crucial components of becoming a good reader. The only way to get good at it is to practice.
Reading aloud to young children is not only one of the best activities to stimulate language and cognitive skills; it also builds motivation, curiosity, and memory. Bardige, B. Talk to Me, Baby!(2009), Paul H Brookes Pub Co.
