This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

"If there is a problem, we look for a good solution." These words open our school's credo that we ask our students to live by while they are at school. Now it's my turn to live by those words in order to make every moment count for my deserving students.

My students are eager, committed, and deserving of an education that puts them on a path of college readiness.

When students arrive to my fifth grade writing class, they are often two or three years behind in reading and writing level. Urgency, therefore, must be our way, as we try to do right by our kids and give them the literacy skills they will need through middle school, high school, college, and life. I am, therefore requesting supplies that will help me maximize the time I have with my fifth grade writers in their first year at our school when the need is so great and the time so little.

My Project

My charter school is located on half of the fourth floor of a large old school building. We have limited space, and I am therefore forced to travel to teach my classes. If I have to set up a blackboard that has just been used when I arrive to teach in a classroom, students miss valuable minutes of learning. I am therefore requesting a dry erase easel on wheels, chart paper, and the associated markers that will enable me to prepare my board and any necessary posters before I arrive to teach my class. Having done this preparation will allow me to start class the moment I arrive in the room. These materials will give students 25 minutes of additional writing instruction each week, which adds up to almost two additional hours of writing instruction each month!
