My students are 5th graders at a high-performing charter school middle school (grades 5-8)that serves a high-needs population in North Philadelphia. Most of my students enter our high-expectations school at literacy and math levels far below fifth grade expectations. They need excellent literacy instruction in order to be on a college-bound path, and they are eager to work hard to be on that path. As their teacher, my job is to help my students growth in every subject throughout the year. Although many of my students have a long way to go, it doesn't take long for them to recognize that hard work and pride can have significant and positive impact in their lives.
