As a guidance counselor, on a small budget, I work hard to bring the most current and effective curriculum to my students. Whether we are discussing character education, bullying, study skills, or career planning, technology provides boundless opportunities to enhance this curriculum.
Our K-8 rural school is filled with children that come to school every day full of energy and eager to learn.
As a low, socioeconomic school, our resources are limited. We have a wonderful supporting School Board and community. However, we work hard to keep our school budget down, and still provide our students with enhancing opportunities. This would be a fine example of such an opportunity.
My Project
My job, as a school guidance counselor, is to provide resources and support students' emotional, social, and academic success. As I travel from classroom to classroom to teach guidance lessons, the children are always asking, "What are we going to do today?" It might be a role play puppet show, listening to a story, doing a group activity, etc. However, there are so many resources available to supplement my lessons that I could bring to the classroom with a portable projector, including "ted talk" videos for the older kids, power point presentations, informational websites, or videos, to name a few. Currently, we have one portable projector available for teachers to use. The kids are always excited when they hear me rolling the squeaky projector cart into the classroom. I would love to sneak up on them someday soon with my own portable projector!!
"Ted talk" videos are one example of the powerful material that I could bring to the classroom with a portable projector.
