Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I have 29 wonderful 5th-grade students, which include special education students, magnet students, English Language Learners, and intervention students. They are very enthusiastic about learning and are always eager to explore new things. They love coming to school every day, and always have a big smile on their faces, despite the socioeconomic hardships they endure in the community in which they live. They attend a school in California, in a low-income neighborhood. The school is both a regular and highly gifted/magnet institution. However, my students are part of the regular school and do not have access to the materials and enrichment activities that the magnet students have.
My Project
After reading Ms. Abell's project "Around the World in 180 Days", I was inspired to write a Virtual Reality Project for my students. Like Ms. Abell, I would also like my students to travel to amazing places and discover the world beyond their classroom. One way to achieve this is through the use of Virtual Reality. Although some might say that Virtual Reality is limited because students only experience the sights and sounds of faraway places, it is still the best way that they can experience places that otherwise would not be possible due to budget, time, and distance constraints. We will use the computer to access applications, such as Google Expeditions, Nearpod, and Google Arts and Culture that will allow my students to visit museums, space centers, historic places, etc... the learning experience can extend beyond the classroom. The cover will be used to keep the computer safe and clean. The USB Hub and HDMI cable will be used to connect the computer to the TV so that the entire class can watch the virtual tours. Thus ensuring that all students can immerse fully in the VR experience. The Virtual Reality experience will help my students become more engaged in science, art and history as the content in these subjects can be difficult to understand. Having a 3D representation of what we're learning in class will ensure that my students grasp the concepts more easily.
I am certain that my students will benefit greatly from the experiences through Virtual Reality to enhance their learning, especially in science, technology, math, art, and history and it will open their classroom to new horizons.
Your financial support will help make a huge difference in my students by catapulting their learning to a different level. Thank you in advance for your support.
