Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our school is an urban high school with about 1,000 students, and it is a very diverse learning environment! My students encompass a variety of backgrounds, beliefs, and ideas. My students love interacting with their peers, socializing and telling jokes. They are full of passion, energy and excitement and take pride in their successes.
Many of my students come from disadvantaged backgrounds and deserve to have every opportunity they can in order to succeed in high school and beyond.
With this project, my hope is that my students will develop their literacy skills and a love of reading, which will help them become better students across all of their classes and help with college and career readiness
My Project
The books I am requesting will help create a classroom library in my history classroom. The books are mostly high interest historical fiction, dystopian fiction and nonfiction memoirs relating to many of the subjects and topics we will cover during the year.
With access to these books, my hope is that my students realize that they can read for fun in their history class.
By reading a variety of different books and developing a love for reading, I also hope that it will help them become stronger readers, writers and thinkers in order to perform well in my class and their other classes. I also hope that these books will help history come "alive" and allow my students to have a window into historical events beyond primary and secondary source documents.
