My students are learning how to code their own 3D print designs and with that comes a lot of learning . . . in the form of failed prints. Failed prints are just a big was of plastic string depending on the size of the print and the size of the mess I get to clean up. Normally the failed prints are just thrown into the trash but recently I learned that you can melt down the failed prints in resin molds and use them to create new things. 3D filament is plastic meaning if it gets thrown away then it's just going to sit in the landfill for who knows how long before it breaks down.
I want to teach my students the art of reusing and recycling by getting resin molds and a toaster oven to be able to melt down their failed prints into new art pieces.
Teaching them about being good humans and taking care of Mother Earth even with the amazing new technologies that we have now.
