Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My school is beginning to transition to the Thinking Classroom model of instruction. We will be randomizing seating in my classroom 2-3 times a day to optimize opportunities to collaborate with other students.
By randomizing seating multiple times a day, students will learn skills that will support later engagement in civic duties, such as: collaboration, communication, how to disagree respectfully and increase confidence that their thoughts and opinions matter.
With the randomization of seating, student real estate will need to become mobile. Supplies that can be shared (markers, erasers, pens, highlighters) will be stored in table caddies. Headphones will be hung on the wall with command hooks and baskets (with most of their notebooks and supplies) will be zip-tied to the bottom of their chair. As new groups are formed throughout the day, their chair and materials can easily travel with them.
