Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our school has approximately 600 students and twenty-five classrooms ranging from Kindergarten to Fifth grade. Ninety-seven percent of students are on free breakfast and lunch assistance. The average salary in their homes is substantially below the national average. My slogan is "Fun in One.” I teach through my slogan. The nurturing environment they receive in my classroom for 180 days is just as important as the one they receive at home. We strive to SOAR every day at our school. Help us be better scholars every day.
My Project
These leveled books will offer my students an achievement of reading longer books with a controlled vocabulary. My students are eager to read words and by January they are rockets. The leveled library that I currently have doesn't afford my students the "I Can Read Books". These books are enriched with vocabulary that is repetitive and often a strong character and a super plot. The reason for multiple sets is that the student could read with a partner too. Kids enjoy reading with a few friends and it is so much easier if you have your own book to hold and place a bookmark inside and call it yours for the week.
