Transforming STEM Learning Through Owl Pellet Investigations

Help me give my students the Owl Pellet Kit to foster STEM inquiry. These interactive labs increase engagement, deepen understanding, and make science learning exciting and memorable.

My Project

My students are naturally curious, energetic, and eager to learn through hands-on experiences. As sixth-grade scientists in a Title I school, they thrive when they can investigate real-world phenomena and make discoveries for themselves. Many of my students learn best by doing, asking questions, and collaborating with their peers. Their enthusiasm and determination inspire me every day, and I want to provide meaningful learning experiences that help them see themselves as capable scientists and problem-solvers.

The owl pellets and investigation materials in this project will transform our study of ecosystems, food webs, and animal adaptations into an authentic scientific experience.

Students will carefully dissect owl pellets, identify prey remains using bone charts, record observations, and analyze data to determine what owls eat and how they fit into their ecosystems. These resources will strengthen critical thinking, observation, and data-analysis skills while making science engaging and memorable. Instead of simply reading about food chains, students will experience science firsthand through inquiry and discovery.

My goal is to increase student engagement in STEM while developing scientific reasoning skills and a deeper understanding of ecological relationships. I want my students to experience the excitement of real scientific investigation and build confidence in their ability to analyze evidence and draw conclusions. By supporting this project, donors will help create a classroom where curiosity is encouraged, learning is active, and every student has the opportunity to explore the natural world like a scientist.
