Transformative Technology: Updating Preschool With Touchscreen Promethean Board & Projector

My Students

My Pre-Kindergarten students attend a rural school in Tennessee, nestled in the foothills of the Cherokee National Forest and the Smoky Mountains. It is a Title I school, and over 70% of students come from disadvantaged socioeconomic homes and qualify for free or reduced-price lunch. This classroom is a Blended Preschool serving a population of students with special needs alongside their typical peers in Monroe County, TN.

I want my students to enjoy learning, and remember school as a welcoming, positive experience that helped shape their positive outlooks on life.

Many of these students do not receive any environmental enrichment outside of our school doors. My goal is to make learning as creative and engaging as I can in order for these students to be knowledgeable and prepared for the next chapter of their lives.

My Project

My students are anywhere from 3-5 years old and all of them love school! Many of my students learn differently-abled and have special needs that would benefit considerably from a touchscreen Promethean Board and Projector. Having this wonderful resource would automatically provide access to over 40,000 literacy materials through the site Epic Books.

Books, Audiobooks, Videos, and Activities can be projected to the entire class to encourage communication, comprehension, problem-solving skills and of course, FUN!

I also provide a daily circle time that could be projected on the Interactive Board. My students benefit from visuals and a touch screen would allow students with physical special needs could use more efficiently, as opposed to the pens that constantly need calibrating in order to work correctly. Not to mention countless resources for music and movement, directed drawings, literacy and math material, virtual field trips, and virtual classroom speakers. I realize that this is an enormous project and I am shooting for the stars. But my students could really benefit from these items and I will never stop advocating for them to have access to the best education they can get! Thank you in advance for reviewing my project.
