Diverse is how I would describe all my babies in my first-grade classroom. Each child has their own unique personality, ability level, strengths, weaknesses, talents, families, and backgrounds. This is why after 14 years of teaching I can't use the same old lessons year after year or teach the same way I did the year before. I am always adjusting my teaching to meet the needs of my young learners.
Every day I am greeted by smiles, laughter, good morning hugs or high fives, occasionally sleepy eyes but nevertheless my students come to school pumped up and ready to explore, engage, and excel in learning.
It is my calling every day to make sure my first-grade babies are growing and learning academically as well as emotionally and socially.
My Project
I am requesting the opportunity to attend a professional development conference in the area of reading and writing. This conference will allow me to gain new, engaging, researched based strategies to implement in my reading and writing classroom. I am confident that the knowledge I will gain from this conference will help me transform by reading and writing block and become an even more effective teacher. The knowledge I will attain from this experience will benefit my present and future First Grade Leaders for years to come. In addition, I am requesting student lesson materials written by the conference presenters to engage students in fun exciting activities. The knowledge gained from this unique experience will directly impact the success of my students. My First Grade Leaders are enthusiastic about Reading and Writing and their eyes light up when it is carpet time because they can’t wait to hear the story.
Many of my students enter my classroom as nonreaders and writers but leave reading and writing.
I hope to gain strategies to help strengthen the area of reading comprehension. This conference will allow me to add to my toolbox of strategies for helping boost reading and reading comprehension as well as writing success.
