This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Students in my class walk into a homey environment each morning. We start our day with pack time, this is a time in which we come together as a class and work on developing character traits such as honesty, kindness, and tolerance. We practice building one another up as we share our thoughts, feelings, dreams, and struggles.
Many of our students are behind in early literacy skills and math skills from the start, they need an engaging environment to captivate their interest and make learning fun again.
It is my hope that doing monthly rooms transformations in our STEAM classroom I can bring excitement back into each and every school day and truly foster the desire to learn within my students.
These students may come from very little, but they are capable of so much. Many are on free/reduced lunch, come from split households, and worry about things no eight-year-old should.
Our school is leaning towards the future and how we can better prepare our students for life, college, and a career. We currently serve over 700 students at our school, and yet we receive very little funding. Please consider helping us work toward a better future.
My Project
These materials will go towards helping create a more student centered and engaging learning environment. The room will be able to be transformed into a book tasting cafe, a crime scene escape the room, and a glow games themed unit review. These materials will be able to be reused throughout the year and into the future.
Students learn best when they are excited about what they are learning and sometimes that means going above and beyond to turn a lesson into an experience.
These materials will help our students problem solve, work as a team, and build critical thinking skills all while they are having fun. By allowing students to have props the students are able to buy in to the lesson and the scenario. The students become engaged in the lesson without being aware of the learning occurring. By being funded the materials will be used for various room transformations, thus transforming many lessons. the restuant props will be used to teach about text features, genres, and economics. The black light and glow materials will turn into a glow in the dark ‘park’ where students will work on reviewing skills to earn points while playing games. Lastly, the crime scene materials will allow students to work to solve the unknown. Students will be given clues that ultimately lead to a final reveal, much Luke the popular escape the rooms. In a world made up of high level entertainment, our students need to be actively engaged and captivated by their learning experience. We would be so grateful to have these materials help to transform our classroom and create a lasting educational impact on our students.
